Farmer Engagement and Compost Distribution at Mr. Sulai’s Farm, Sungkap Village

Today’s field activities at Mr. Sulai’s farm ran productively with the support of Change Maker (CM) Desvita. The agenda began in the morning with the harvest of patchouli plants, where one out of three rows was successfully harvested. Due to the lush and vigorous growth of the patchouli, the harvesting process was quite intensive, and the remaining rows will be continued by Mr. Sulai on the following day. The harvested leaves were immediately sun-dried on-site to preserve their quality before further processing.

In addition to harvesting, the team also conducted patchouli stem cutting propagation, producing approximately 170 polybags of seedlings. This activity is an essential step to ensure the continuous availability of quality planting material that farmers can produce independently.

By midday, the team proceeded with compost packing activities at Site 2, successfully collecting 16 sacks of compost. Each farmer, Mr. Sulai and Mr. Zali, received 8 sacks. The compost was packed using reused sacks sourced from Mr. Sulai’s farm, as a cost-saving measure and to reduce plastic waste. Once packed, each farmer transported the compost to their respective fields independently.

This activity stands as a strong example of effective collaboration among farmers. Special thanks go to CM Desvita for her time and support in the field today. The spirit of besaoh (mutual cooperation) and community-based solidarity continues to be the foundation for building a resilient and sustainable farming system.
