Change Makers
Change makers is an individual from our team projects who train farmers, promote agroforestry practices, and prioritize farmer well-being. They aren’t necessarily activists in the traditional sense; rather, they are people who identify a need, take initiative, and innovate to solve problems that impact communities on any scale.
Demoplot
A demoplot is a small-scale demonstration plot used by farmers to experiment with and showcase innovative agricultural practices. In this case, it integrates pepper cultivation with agroforestry systems, managed directly by smallholder farmers to serve as a live learning space for sustainable farming in Bangka Belitung.
Demofarm
Focuses on integrating pepper cultivation with agroforestry practices to promote Kelekak Agroforestry maintained by champion farmer Purpose of the demofarm is create a modular and replicable model of system that educates and demonstrates best practices for Pepper Kelekak Agroforestry
Nursery
Pepper nursery activities in the aGROWforests project are carried out in a structured manner in several Spice Hub locations, one of which is at SHC Namang, with a focus on the construction of supporting facilities such as planting media, application of biological microbes (Trichoderma/PGPR), and the use of tools and materials such as paranets, covers, polybags, and compost.
Soil Laboratorium
In this laboratory, we produce several biological agents such as Trichoderma and PGPR to be distributed to farmers and applied to white pepper (sahang) plantations. In addition, we propagate isolates of other beneficial agents including Metarhizium, Bacillus, and Pseudomonas. Our efforts are continuously directed toward developing a wider range of biological agents to enhance the growth quality of farmers’ pepper crops.
Post Harvest
Ensure the optimal quality, yield, and marketability of the fruits and other commodities while minimizing losses and maintaining the sustainability of the system
- Harvested the fruit in the system include banana, pineapple, keylime
- Processed the fruit into food and beverage such as jam, syrup, dried
- Harvesting is done depending on the harvest season of fruit
Traceability System
The increasing consumer awareness of food safety has led to the need to identify and adopt business practices that help trading partner’s ability to trace products throughout their supply chain. They also expect everyone involved in the supply chain to implement effective practices that allow for rapid identification and recall of confirmed food product issues.
MUTN
Mitra Usaha Tani Nusantara (MUTN) is a community initiative that grew from a collective awareness of the importance of rebuilding a harmonious relationship between humans, nature, and life values. Amidst the challenges of the times from ecological crises, socio economic inequality, to the loss of cultural value orientation MUTN is present as a recovery movement rooted in local wisdom and the spirit of spiritual regeneration.
Kelekak Tree Planting
The aGROWforests TreePlanting Program is a community-based restoration initiative in Bangka Belitung that aims to revive local Kelekak knowledge through an integrated pepper agroforestry system with fruit and timber crops. Driven by the loss of 30,594 hectares of forest cover between 2015–2021 due to tin mining and the expansion of monoculture plantations (oil palm, rubber, and pepper), the project encourages a transition from a monoculture pepper farming system that is vulnerable to soil degradation, pests, and chemical dependency, to a more productive, climate-resilient, and diverse agricultural landscape.
